Signs of Fall: Football, Foliage, and the Pavement Recycling Summit

Yesterday I walked into my backyard to beg our new goldendoodle puppy to use the bathroom when much to my surprise I could hear the rat-a-tat-tat of drums in the distance. I live just a couple of miles from the campus of Auburn University and the sounds of the Auburn University Marching Band practice was filling the skies. This, along with the arrival of Sam Adams Oktoberfest at my local grocer, is my first sign that fall is just around the corner.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Along with changing color of the leaves, beginnings football season, the smell of smoked meat filling the air on a Saturday morning, and the start of the NASCAR playoffs, I always know that this time of year signifies the arrival of the annual Pavement Recycling Summit. This year we’ll be traveling to the great Volunteer State, specifically the Music City - Nashville, TN, to hear the latest and greatest in pavement recycling. (Fun fact: The basketball floor at my alma mater, the University of Tennessee, is named “The Summit” after Hall of Fame basketball coach Pat Summit.)

So what’s on tap this year at The Summit? 
• In honor of Tennessee: You’ll get to hear about all the pavement recycling happenings in Tennessee, including TDOT projects and those at Tennessee airports.

• National Perspectives: Presentations about pavement recycling in Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, and Massachusetts will be given by an all-star cast of experts.

• State of the Practice: Hear the results of the NCHRP Synthesis of FDR, a discussion about the standardization of mix design and quality control, and an update on the development of product category rules for life cycle assessment of recycling techniques.

• The People: This meeting is a great opportunity to network with agency members, suppliers, contractors, and consultants alike!
