The 2018 Asphalt Recycling & Reclaiming Association (ARRA) Semi-Annual Meeting, October 15-18 in Norfolk, Virginia, is sure to provide attendees with a unique experience including technical and hands-on training and education. Attendees will hear from leading industry professionals on key industry topics, network with peers, and enjoy local attractions with a tour and reception planned aboard the USS Wisconsin Battleship.

The Virginia I-64 project is a prominent aspect of Wednesday’s programming at the Semi-Annual Meeting. During the meeting, attendees will hear from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)’s Tom Tate on the design development, Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC)’s Brian Diefenderfer on the design details and expected design life, and Auburn University’s Ben Bowers (formerly VTRC) on the FDR and CCPR specifications, mix design, construction, and quality control. Representatives from I-64 project contractor Allan Myers Construction will cover the lessons learned during this project, and is also scheduled to provide attendees with a drone tour from the plant to the project site.

A new addition to the Semi-Annual Meeting this year is an outdoor workshop which will take place Wednesday afternoon. Program Chair Ryan Essex, Miller Paving Limited, and his committee have been working hard to develop a hands-on workshop which will allow attendees to visit eight stations focusing on the concepts and design methods used during the I-64 project. These stations will be a combination of interactive and whiteboard stations for attendees to fully understand the steps and processes taken for a successful project.

In addition to I-64 programming, Tuesday will feature several speakers designed to help attendees’ businesses including a keynote on “Humanizing Business,” two presentations by marketing expert Lindsay Matush, who will speak to growing your business and building your brand, as well as presentations on safety, using data to improve your bottom line, and tapping into engineering companies to grow the industry.  Thursday morning will feature several milling focused topics including an update on silica regulations and a 3D milling project example, and several cold recycling topics including cold recycling in China, a look at Wisconsin’s CIR program, and an alternative approach for pavement structural design using cold recycled materials.

As the 2018 ARRA Semi Annual Meeting quickly approaches, ARRA encourages members to register now as the group hotel rate of only $119 will only be available until September 24. Register by September 29 to save $50-$100 over the late registration rates.
