Former ARRA Board Member Edward Kearney Passes

With regret, we share news of the passing of Edward J. Kearney, 76, on January 19, 2018. A former board member of the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association, Kearney was also a recipient of the Richard E. Lowell Presidents Award.

Kearney was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and University of Notre Dame in 1963. He went on to earn his Masters Degree from RPI, and took graduate courses at Union College.

Kearney was an engineer for New York State Department of Transportation and former Chief Engineer for Gorman Brothers. He was a Senior Engineer for the Asphalt Institute, and Director of Engineering for Wirtgen America, Inc. While at DOT, he developed special environmentally sensitive design standards for state highways for local roads in the Adirondack Park prior to the Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympics.

He lectured in many states for the Asphalt Institute, and was a leader in Cold Recycling Technology. He was a board member of Trans Tec, Inc, and the Transportation Research Board. He also was awarded the 2014 Spirit of Notre Dame Award. In addition to his very successful career as an engineer, Kearney loved spending time with his family, along with golfing and photography.
